Two students head to KYW Newsradio

Two students in the Vineland High School Communication, Media and Technology Small Learning Community recently received an opportunity to intern with KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia, according to Erika Cowdright, the SLC administrator.

Senior Steven Forcinito and junior Ryan Steinbronn will participate in the KWY Newsradio 2009 NEWSTUDIES program, which will take place over six Saturday mornings beginning this weekend. The program will the VHS students a first-hand look at the inner workings of KYW Newsradio and CBS3 television from anchors, reporters, editors and station managers.

For their final project, Forcinito and Steinbronn will research, write and record a story about Vineland High School and/or the Vineland community, which will be broadcast on KYW Newsradio.

At the end of the program, several students will be honored for their accomplishments during the Newstudies program. Top prizes include a $2,000 Richard Monetti Scholarship, Mark Drucker Memorial Internship (summer job working at KYW), laptop computers and other rewards.

Both students, who aspire to a career in media, said they were excited by the opportunity to participate in the internship.

Steinbronn is a two-year veteran of VPS Broadcasting, a collaboration of students, adult staff and district personnel that creates TV programs that air on Comcast Channel 9 and Verizon FIOS Channel 41.

    I participated in the NewsStudies program when I was a high school student. It’s a great learning experience. Plus, all of the students get to have their final reports recorded and played on KYW 1060.
