Gina Cristina Schwegel

Gina Cristina Schwegel is The Daily Journal's Student of the Day.

She is a 6-year-old kindergartner at Petway Elementary School of Vineland Public Schools.

She lives in Vineland with her parents, Asher and Franca.

“Gina strives very hard to achieve her goals,” according to a Student of the Day nomination submitted by her school. “She acts and sings and has even auditioned for Disney. She hopes to be a star one day.”

STAR STUDENT: Katarae Little

Katarae Little

Katarae Little is The Daily Journal's Student of the Day.

She is a 5-year-old Petway Elementary student in Vineland Public Schools.

She lives in Vineland with her parents, Chanda Baldwin and Steve Little.

“Katarae is doing well in all subjects,” according to a Student of the Day nomination form submitted by her school. “She is a very smart girl. She enjoys helping other people.”

Star Student: Keyshla Charriez

Keyshla Charriez

Keyshla Charriez is The Daily Journal's Student of the Day.

She is a 5-year-old student at Petway Elementary of Vineland Public Schools.

She lives in Vineland with her parents, Luis Charriez and Iris Charriez.

Keyshla was selected as Student the Month by her teacher, Mrs. Mastrogiovanni. “Keyshla loves to come home to do her homework,” according to her school. “Keyshla is a hard worker and strives to do her best.”

‘Souper’ bowl food drive helps local kitchen

For the fourth consecutive year, the Petway Patriots held a soup drive for the "souper" bowl. Pam Carman from Spirit & Truth Ministries came to pick up the collection on Friday.

They considered this food drive a "hail Mary" touchdown due to the impending snow storm that followed that weekend.

Petway plans week around reading

Students at Petway Elementary have a packed schedule to celebrate Read Across America, a celebration of reading planned each year around Dr. Suess's birthday on March 2.

The school is planned to celebrate every day starting Feb. 17 with a different Seuss theme and accompanying activity, said Debbie Eisinger, Petway's media specialist. This year the school incorporated a couple of community service donations.
